Chinese Herbal Medicine is a system of herbology that has been used for over 5,000 years. Herbal treatments enhance the healing effects of acupuncture. Herbs alone can be used to heal any condition.
How does Chinese herbal medicine work?
Herbs provide nourishment in the way of vitamins, minerals, enzymes and essential oils.
Processed vitamins are often discarded by the body (usually passed out in the urine) because the extensive processing process used to manufacture vitamins results in a product that is not recognized by the body. It can take several months for the body to begin to recognize the vitamin in its altered form and start utilizing the nutrients.
Because there is only a minimal amount of processing used, Chinese Herbal Medicine is easily assimilated and absorbed quickly.
Chinese Herbal Medicine is and ancient science. The system used, is an extremely sophisticated system in both the design and prescription of oral medicine in the world!
The reason it three fold.
1. Herbs formulas are designed to give no side effects.
2. They are designed to get rid of the symptom and also to address the CAUSE of the problem.
3. Apart from alleviating the symptom or symptoms, with no side effects, and eliminating the CAUSE of the symptom, the herbs benefit the general Health due to the BALANCING EFFECT of making corrections in temperature, function and nourishment of particular organs.
FOR EXAMPLE: The patient presents with a herniated disc and severe pain in the lumbar (low back) area. An herb formula is given to reduce the swelling (that causes tissue to press on sensitive nerves), activate the blood (removing all bruising caused to the tissues in that area), orifice opening herbs are included to relieve surface tension and increase the blood flow the the capillaries. In addition herbs are included to strengthen the kidney and adrenal glands which are related to low back conditions. The formula works to enhance the body's natural functions.
With no swelling and no excess blood from internal bruising there would be no back pain. An ice pack will do many of the same things in a minor way for a short period of time (except strengthen the kidney). With the herb formula you have convenience, sustained healing time, general improvement in health and pain relief.
Each herb is analyzed according to it's taste: sweet, slightly sweet, neutral, bitter, slightly bitter, sour, very sour, slightly sour.
Herbs are also analyzed according to their temperature; cold, very cold, slightly cold, neutral, hot, very hot, warm.
Each herb is also analyzed according to its function; moistening, drying, dispersing, opening orifices, astringent, blood quickening, qi activating, etc.
Each herb is considered in its reaction to every other herb in the formula. Some herbs are incompatible when used with other herbs, some are synergistic.
The taste of the herb helps determine which organ will be targeted with nutrients. For example, a sour herb may be directed to the liver. If the herb is sour and hot it will contribute to heat in the liver (not often desirable!).
